Lady Otts donate $25k for new path

OTTOVILLE — Last winter, the Ottoville Lady Otts came to the Ottoville Park Board with an idea of putting a walking/biking path around the perimeter of the park.

For the last several years, they have been hosting a Purse Bingo at the Delphos Eagles. From this, they have saved enough money to get the project started.

Participating in the check presentation to the Ottoville Park Board are, from left, Darren Leis and Troy Heitmeyer (park board); Sandy Markward, Mary Jo Maag, Ann Turnwald and Laurie Knippen (Lady Otts); and Jeff Averesch (park board).

On Feb. 11, the Ottoville Lady Otts presented the Ottoville Park Board with a $25,000 check.

The donated money along with funds provided by the Park Board via the Park Carnival will go towards a concrete sidewalk which will follow the soccer fence line along Church Street all the way to the river. From there, an asphalt path will follow the river to the existing walking bridge. This project will also include a new coating of asphalt on the existing path going to the walking bridge and lighting to follow the new path.

The project will begin once the weather breaks and will be completed by fall.

Future plans include continuing the lit path from the bridge following the river to US 224, then to the south park entrance.

The Ottoville Park Board would like to thank the Lady Otts for their generous contribution.
