Coach’s Code of Ethics

 Ottoville Park Coach's Code of Ethics

• I realize that as the coach I set the tone and give direction to my team.  My position must be viewed in the context of being a role model to youth.
•  I will lead my players by example in demonstrating the values of self-restraint and good sportsmanship toward my opponents and game officials.
• I understand my obligation to maintain proper conduct at all times because of the great potential that I have to be a positive influence on young people.
• I will encourage each player to be a responsible and active team member with a good attitude.
• I will place the emotional and physical well-being of my players, as well as their educational obligations, ahead of any personal desire to win.
• I will treat each player as an individual, and keep in mind that each is at a different level of emotional, physical and psychological development.
• I will do my very best to provide a safe playing and practice environment for my players.
• I will ensure that I am knowledgeable in the rules of the sport that I coach, and I will teach these rules to my players.
• I will use coaching techniques appropriate for the skill level of youth that I coach and will spend an equal amount of time coaching individual players regardless of their ability.
• I will do my best to develop a positive relationship with my athletes as well as their parents.
• I will not be in possession of a weapon or under the influence of any form of alcohol/chemicals or use tobacco products at any Ottoville Park related contest or practice session.
• I will remember that I am a youth coach, and that the games and practices are for the youth to develop, learn and have fun; not the adults.
• I will ensure no use of foul language from any coach towards an athlete, from any athlete participating in our programs or the use of foul language from spectators towards any coach, athlete or umpire.

I have read each statement included in this document and pledge to live up to these principles as they apply to a coach in the Ottoville Park programs.  I understand that my failure to uphold any of the above principles may result in disciplinary action and/or removal from the Ottoville Park programs.

By signing/submitting below, I also acknowledge that all policies and procedures, as well as any specific sport rules have been communicated to me.
